CONTEMPORARY MINIMALIST

Contemporary Minimalist design for me includes the usage of clean lines and forms in interior space with a modern look to it. In Malaysia, some of the Contemporary Minimalist design includes the usage of high quality beautiful material as the highlight of the space, while achieving better design through simplicity. It is all about careful editing and restraint of a space by folloeing the phrase 'Less is More'.

These are some of the Contemporary Minimalist designs that demonstrates the essence of Contemporary Minimalist in Malaysia.

CORE DESIGN WORKSHOP

Private semi-detached residence in Kota Kemuning by Core Design Workshop.

Modern Minimalist home in Kota Damansara locate at the Polo Club.

JTJ DESIGN

JTJ Design is a KL based design and development company by Jessica Lim, Tony Heneberry and Jo England.

This is a terrace house in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur that is a modern minimalist home rising from the old shell that is stripped back to the bare bones, and removated with steel and timber. Its spare and clean lines give a relaxed cool and calm atmosphere to the interior space.

Core Design Workshop are a multi-disciplinary design practice on a contemporary building design workshop based in Subang Jaya. One of the interior designers is Jiin, and the key elements of their designs is to bring together architecture, interior and contemporary art into a space to creatively sculpt habitable space as an art where the essence of true spatial experience is discovered.

The Model

The person who lives in this place is a lone person who fancies all things artistic and poetic.

She is alone but she is never lonely. She enjoys clean, minimal spaces with little to no clutter or big loud furniture or designs.

She enjoys the calmness of minimalism but with a contemporary twist to the space. She is after all an edgy person who has a need to be trend setter and always looking for need trends to follow or set.

An oversized button down worn as a dress. Minimal but it stands out enough to make a statement.

Edgy, to represent her bold character. Black eyeliner as the focal point always makes a statement, very much like her style.

Location of Shoot

The location I have chosen for the shoot is Bean Reserve at Bangsar. It is a bungalow unit on its own, hidden much from the hustle and bustle of Bangsar.

The overall look and interior of the place suits the theme that I am going for, Contemporary Minimalist. Clean white or off white walls as the overall look with a hint of light brown natural timber colour and accented with black clean lines.

Final Project

She wonders about the outside world, and yet she is hiding behind the safety of her her comfort zone, those walls.

Edgy and constantly looking for inspiration, she delves in pages, ignoring what's going on in the outside world.

She may be alone, but she is never lonely.

And yet the thoughts in her head, all remain constrained to herself.

Silent yet daring, her brooding confidence is alluring. She is a leader, never a follower.

And yet at the same time, she is mysterious. And hard to understand.

At the end of the day, all she needs is her own company, in her own space.
